Surge in Drug Abuse Poses National Security Threat – Lydia Abena Manu

 

The founder of Willingway Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre, Lydia Abena Manu, has sounded the alarm on the alarming rate of drug abuse in Ghana, describing it as a national security threat.

Madam Lydia expressed concern over the government’s slow response to tackling the menace, warning that the country’s future hangs in the balance.

During the launch of a float against drug abuse, dubbed “Ghana Against Drug Abuse,” Madam Lydia called on all stakeholders to join forces to combat the canker. She emphasized the need for collective action to address the issue, which she believes poses a significant threat to the nation’s well-being.

On the role of law enforcement, Madam Lydia urged the government and the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Police Service to implement strict measures to control the importation of hard drugs. She stressed that a robust enforcement mechanism is crucial to curbing the menace and protecting the country’s future.

The call to action comes amid growing concerns about the impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and communities in Ghana.

Madam Lydia’s advocacy for a multi-stakeholder approach and stringent law enforcement measures highlights the need for a comprehensive strategy to address the issue.
