The bill aims to criminalize LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana and prohibit advocacy, promotion, or financial support for such practices.

It was previously passed by the Eighth Parliament but did not become law due to lack of presidential assent.
“The necessary processes in accordance with our Standing Orders have been completed, and the bills are ready to be presented for first reading during this meeting,” the Speaker said.

The bill’s reintroduction is expected to spark national and international debate, with discussions focusing on human rights, constitutional freedoms, and cultural values. Supporters argue it reflects Ghanaian cultural norms, while critics see it as a violation of fundamental freedoms.

Two other private members’ bills, the Property Rights of Spouses Bill and the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana (Amendment) Bill, will also be introduced for first reading in Parliament.
