Sodium Cyanide Seizure Highlights Border Security Concerns

The Immigration Service has made a significant bust along the Black Volta lake bordering Burkina Faso, intercepting 250 drums containing chemicals suspected to be sodium cyanide.

The illicit contraband was discovered during a routine patrol led by the Officer-in-Charge for the Nadowli District Command, Bertrand Dery, on July 16, 2025.

The resilient personnel discovered the consignment at the bank of the Black Volta lake, ostensibly ready to be transported into Burkina Faso. The cache was collected and transported to the Nadowli police station for safekeeping, examination, and further action.

The intelligence mechanism has been activated to fish out persons complicit in the illegality.

The Upper West Regional Commander, DCOI Justice Bosomtwi-Ayensu, has sanctioned a 24/7 manning of all known unapproved routes, while routine patrols are also actively in motion.

The Immigration Service has cautioned the general public to desist from any form of cross-border-related crime.

The agency is determined to ensure secured borders and will not hesitate to take action against individuals engaging in illegal activities.
