Snake Causes Power Outage in Ashanti Region

A brief power outage hit several parts of the Ashanti Region on June 11, 2025, after a snake bridged the Akyawkrom 2 feeder to ground, disrupting electricity supply.

The incident occurred at Kwaso in the Ejusu Municipality, affecting multiple locations.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) quickly responded to the incident, restoring power to the affected areas.

According to Ing. Peter K. Fletcher, General Manager of ECG Ashanti Sub-Transmission, “Wildlife, especially snakes and birds, continue to pose real threats to grid reliability.”

The ECG team worked swiftly to restore electricity, and by 3:39 p.m., both Akyawkrom 1 and 2 interconnectors had been fully restored.
