QUARRY OPERATIONS IN DUMANSUA NOT GALAMSEY – NADMO DIRECTORATE
The Offinso South NADMO Directorate, led by Hon. Wiafe Mohammed, has clarified that the recent claims of galamsey activities in Dumansua are unfounded.
According to Hon. Wiafe Mohammed, a site visit revealed that the area in question is actually a quarry site, with sand winning trucks passing through.
The quarry company has all the necessary permits from the Minerals Commission of Ghana and has compensated the community, he added.
Hon. Wiafe Mohammed emphasized that quarrying is a legitimate activity distinct from illegal mining, with minimal environmental impact.
He urged the community to fact-check information before making allegations and appealed to the quarry company to fulfill its promise to construct a footbridge for the residents.
The NADMO Director stressed the need for cooperation between the company and the community for sustainable development.
The Forestry Commission of Offinso has denied reports of ongoing illegal mining activities in Dumansua, stating that their monitoring efforts have not detected any such operations.
The commission acknowledged that images and videos circulating and social media had prompted them to investigate, but they found no evidence to support claims of illegal mining.
“We cannot guarantee an interview on this matter as it doesn’t fall within our enclave,” a Forestry Commission representative said.
The commission has directed inquiries to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Minerals Commission, which are responsible for regulating mining activities in the area.
The clarification comes amid concerns about the environmental impact of mining in the region.
The Forestry Commission emphasized its commitment to protecting Ghana’s natural resources and urged the public to report any suspicious activities.
