PWDs in Nkoranza North Receive Boost for Economic Empowerment.

 

Nkoranza North District Chief Executive (DCE) and Joseph Kwasi Mensah, the Member of Parliament (MP) in collaboration with the District Assembly’s Social Welfare Director, Nana Yaa Pormaa Asante, disbursed items such as deep freezers, sewing machines, fufu machines, and cash to thirty three Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from the District Assembly Common Fund to improve their livelihoods, promote self-reliance, and support education and medical needs.

The items were chosen with the aim of income-generating activities, empower PWDs to start or improve businesses, attend school, or meet their basic needs, with an amount of over GH¢100,000.

In a short welcome address with the purpose for the gathering to support the beneficiaries, the District Social Welfare Director, Nana Yaa Pormaa Asante said the government of Ghana is in its policy to invest in the people to transform their economic lives, has made it possible to distribute the items to the PWD’s.

At the end of the program, Nana Yaa outlined that the challenges PWDs faces which includes isolation or neglect is worrying and pray that the government’s effort to support them financially and logistically can help to improve their lives.

The event was organized at the premise of the church of Pentecost at Busunya, the district capital of Nkoranza North on 10th September, 2025.

The Member of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Kwasi Mensah, noted that the Disability Fund Management Committee will embark on a monitoring exercise to ensure that items received by beneficiaries are well managed and profitably utilized.

He continued that, the lives of PWDs are very important that is why the government has given the disability fund quota to 3%.

He stressed that the PWDs should inculcate the habit of book keeping in ensuring business growth.

“I advise the beneficiaries to use the items for their purpose and not to sell them”, the MP stated.

On the part of the District Chief Executive, Effah Patrick in his speech assured the PWDs the government and the district’s plans and continued support to make the PWDs lives better.

” I also assure you that we will start working on your site for the working center or for the workshops, everything is ready for the project”, the DCE assured.

Showing gratitude to the government and the Assembly, the Nkoranza North Federation of Physically Challenge chairman, Owusu Kwadjo Denis expressed their gratitude for the items received and the district’s plans for their welfare.

He highlighted the efforts by the district assembly in providing education, skills training, and opportunities for the PWDs.

Kwadjo Denis concluded by expressing an appeal to the government to increase the fund percentage.
