OFFCOP and FAO-FFF Support Vulnerable Households in Ashanti Region with NHIS Registration and Renewal.
With support from the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Offinso Fine Flavour Cocoa Farmers Cooperative and Marketing Society Limited (OFFCOP) has successfully collaborated with the Offinso National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Office and the Department of Social Welfare to improve access to social protection services for vulnerable households within its operational communities.

The exercise, which took place from 8th to 12th December 2025, aimed at renewing and enrolling members of vulnerable households onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), while also sensitizing beneficiaries on available social and cultural services in Ghana, including social welfare support mechanisms and public service access points.
The outreach was conducted across five (5) communities in three (3) districts in the Ashanti Region, namely:
Offinso Municipal District: Koforidua and Namong – Wenchi,Afigya Kwabre North District: Abroma,Atwima Nwabiagya North District: Barekesse and Worapong.
Through the joint effort of OFFCOP, NHIS officials, and Social Welfare officers, a total of 258 vulnerable household members were newly registered onto the NHIS, while 548 beneficiaries successfully renewed their expired NHIS memberships.

Beyond registration and renewal, beneficiaries were educated on their rights and entitlements to social services, the importance of maintaining active NHIS coverage, and how to access support from social welfare institutions, particularly for women, children, the elderly, and persons living in vulnerable conditions.
Speaking on the initiative, OFFCOP emphasized that the intervention aligns with its broader commitment under the FFF programme to strengthen social inclusion, improve access to essential services, and enhance the resilience of farming households, especially those most at risk.

This collaboration highlights the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in promoting social protection, reducing vulnerability, and supporting sustainable livelihoods within cocoa-growing and rural communities.
