NPP New York @33: Ing. Kwabena Agyepong Urges Party to Reject Money Politics, Return to Noble Roots
Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspiring 2028 flagbearer, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has extended warm greetings and congratulations to the NPP New York Chapter as it marks its 33rd anniversary.
In his goodwill message, Ing. Agyepong commended the Chapter for its “devoted service and unwavering commitment” over the years, describing the milestone as a testament to the resilience and patriotism of party faithful in the diaspora.
Although unable to join the celebrations in person, he reaffirmed his solidarity with the Chapter and used the occasion to reflect on the current state of the party and Ghana.
“Where we find ourselves now is not where our forebears envisioned us to be. The NPP of today is totally unrecognisable from the movement we fashioned out of adversity in 1992. It is pretty obvious that both the NPP and our motherland, Ghana, stand in urgent need of rejuvenation, regeneration and renewal,” he stated.
Call for Integrity and a New Dawn.
The former General Secretary lamented the increasing divisiveness and monetisation of internal politics, warning that such practices undermine the founding principles of the NPP.
“Our tradition was never about money. It was founded on sound values, virtues and volunteerism. We should not create a monetary barrier that debar capable and competent but less endowed patriots, thereby virtually handing leadership opportunities to a wealthy few,” he cautioned.
He urged party faithful to rally behind leaders with integrity, character, empathy, and emotional intelligence, stressing the need for “a new dawn of astute political leadership with a clear vision and plan that inspires hope in the youth.”
Renewed Commitment to Unity and Purpose
Ing. Agyepong called on the Chapter and the wider NPP fraternity to recommit to the party’s founding ideals, heal divisions, and work towards rebuilding the base with unity and purposeful leadership.
“Let us continue to work together to rebuild, regenerate and rejuvenate our base with hope, unity, and purposeful leadership,” he urged.
He concluded his message by expressing gratitude to the New York Chapter for its dedication and sacrifices, adding that their example should inspire the broader party to stay true to its heritage while charting a renewed path for the future.
