NKUSUKUM OMANHENE COMMENDS GOV’T FOR EWOYAA LITHIUM RATIFICATION

The Omanhene of the Nkusukum Traditional Area in the Central Region, Nana Okese Essandoh IX, has commended government following the successful parliamentary ratification of the Ewoyaa Lithium mining lease in the Mfantseman Municipality, citing its potential to deliver jobs, development, and economic growth to the area.

Parliament concluded the ratification in March 2026 after extensive delays, clearing the way for the project to proceed.

The 15-year ratified mining lease with Barari DV Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Atlantic Lithium Limited, aims to position Ghana as a key player in the global lithium market.

The project is expected to create over 1,200 jobs. Under the agreement, the state will hold a 19% equity stake, comprising 13% free carried interest. The deal also includes a 5%-12% sliding royalty regime and dedicated community development funds.

The ratification is now expected to advance the project and unlock the economic benefits requested by traditional leadership to improve local livelihoods.

Nana Okese Essandoh IX, who had previously voiced deep concern over the delays, praised government for seeing the ratification through.

However, the Omanhene urged government to take swift action to ensure jobs and compensation reach affected communities without further setbacks.
