Near-Miss on Kumasi-Techiman Highway: Articulated Vehicle Crashes After Brake Failure

A harrowing incident occurred on Sunday, August 10, 2025, along the Kumasi-Techiman highway in Tanoso, where an articulated vehicle heavily loaded with alcoholic beverages bound for Burkina Faso veered

off the road and crashed near a residential building. Miraculously, pedestrians and passengers in a saloon car and a Pragya tricycle narrowly escaped death.

The articulated truck was descending a slope when it reportedly suffered brake failure due to excessive load, causing it to lose balance and crash. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the truck coming to a halt close to a residential building.

The police responded swiftly to the scene to prevent potential traffic congestion. The driver and his mate sustained injuries and were rushed to the Tanoso Health Center for medical attention.

This incident raises concerns about road safety on Ghana’s highways, particularly with regards to overloaded vehicles and maintenance. Recent accidents on Ghana’s roads have resulted in fatalities and injuries, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
