NDAN YAN NAA REJECTS APOLOGY OF ENERGY MINISTER OVER POWER CRISIS IN TAMALE

The revered traditional ruler, Ndan Yan Naa, has openly rejected the apology of the Minister of Energy following the minister’s visit to Tamale amidst the ongoing electricity crisis that has thrown the city into prolonged darkness.

Speaking during a brief meeting at the palace, Ndan Yan Naa expressed deep disappointment, stating that it was disrespectful for the Energy Minister to come and apologize without first ensuring that electricity had been restored to the people of Tamale and its surrounding communities.

“Apologies cannot power our homes or businesses. Fix the problem first, then we can talk about apologies,” the chief reportedly said.

He made it clear that the suffering endured by the people due to the blackout—affecting hospitals, schools, households, and economic activities—was unacceptable, and deserved urgent action rather than political diplomacy.

The chief further stated that leadership must be measured by solutions and accountability, not public relations. He reminded the minister that Tamale is not a second-class city, and the people of the north must be treated with the same level of urgency and respect as anywhere else in the country.

This rejection has sparked massive support from residents and youth groups, many of whom see the chief’s stance as a powerful message to government authorities who often delay action in northern Ghana until public pressure builds.

The Ndan Yan Naa concluded by stating that true leadership begins with service and ends with responsibility—and until light is restored, apologies will mean very little to the people of Tamale.
