H.E.John Dramani Mahama Assures Ghanaians: ECG Won’t Be Privatized.
H.E President John Dramani Mahama president of the Republic of Ghana has firmly assured Ghanaians that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will not be privatized under his leadership.

President John Dramani Mahama Speaking at the national May Day parade on May 1, 2025, Mahama addressed concerns about ECG’s financial challenges, attributing them to poor management over the past eight years, which has resulted in a debt of GHS 68 billion.
H.E. John Dramani Mahama emphasized that his plan is to bring in private partners to improve ECG’s efficiency through public-private collaboration, rather than privatizing the company.

The President of the Republic of Ghana stressed that partnerships can strengthen ECG’s performance without compromising public ownership.
“Let me assure you, it is not my intention to privatize ECG as an institution,” he said. “Our focus is on a public-private collaboration to improve electricity distribution.”
Mahama reiterated, “Read my lips for emphasis, Electricity Company of Ghana, as an institution, will not be privatized.”.
