Launch of Community Resource Management Committees (CRMCs) and Project Close-Out Workshop Concludes Successfully.

 

Knowledge for World Conservation (KWC) with funding support from World Resources Institute and in collaboration with the Forest Services Division, Offinso of the Forestry Commission (FC), recently concluded the launch of twenty Community Resource Management Committees (CRMCs) and Project Close-Out Workshop.

The event took place on Tuesday, July 17, 2025, at 9:00 AM GMT at the Old Offinso Municipal Assembly Hall.

The ceremony was chaired by Nana Kofi Aboagye III, Chief of Asempanaye and Semanhyiahene of the Offinso Traditional Council, and featured Hon. Frank Owusu Amoah, Municipal Chief Executive of Offinso Municipality, as the Guest of Honour.

This initiative was part of the ATEM-OFD project, which aimed to enhance monitoring of the forest in the Offinso Forest District (OFD) of Ghana through the application of technology to monitor forests.

The launch of CRMCs and the project close-out workshop marked a significant milestone in the project’s journey, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the involved organizations in promoting sustainable forest management and fostering community engagement.

Seven individuals were appointed from the 20 forest fringe communities in the Offinso North and South Municipalities to serve on the CRMCs, which will play a crucial role in managing community resources and ensuring the sustainable use of forest resources within the Offinso Forest District.

The ATEM-OFD project has made significant strides in enhancing forest monitoring and conservation in the forest district .

The project’s close-out workshop provided an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the project’s achievements and challenges, and to discuss future plans for forest conservation .

The successful conclusion of this event underscores the commitment of the involved organizations to promoting sustainable forest management and community engagement.
