John Dumelo Donates 500 Bags of Rice to University of Ghana
Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Hon. John Dumelo, has donated 500 bags of rice to the University of Ghana to support its food bank initiative.
The donation, made up of 500 5kg bags of rice, was presented to the Dean of Students, Prof. Rosina Kyeremanten, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
The University of Ghana launched the food bank initiative earlier this year to address food insecurity among students from low-income backgrounds who struggle to have three square meals on campus.
Prof. Kyeremanten expressed gratitude to Mr. Dumelo for the thoughtful intervention, stating that the support will go a long way in ensuring no student goes hungry while pursuing their education.
As a legislator and Deputy Minister, Mr. Dumelo has consistently supported student-centered initiatives and stressed the need for sustainable solutions to food insecurity among youth, particularly in tertiary institutions.
His gesture has received widespread praise on social media, with many commending his commitment to social welfare and student well-being.
The donation is seen as a direct response to growing concerns about student hardship amid the rising cost of living.
University officials have described the donation as timely and impactful, highlighting the positive difference it will make in the lives of financially vulnerable students.
