Islamic SHS student dies after fall from school building

A final-year student of Islamic Senior High School (SHS) in Kumasi, identified as Abass, has died after falling from the top floor of the school’s administration block on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

According to school sources, Abass—who was a Business student and acting Boys’ Prefect—had reportedly been battling suicidal thoughts, although the administration had no prior knowledge of any such concerns.

The incident happened during school hours and immediately drew the attention of students and staff, who rushed to assist. He was quickly transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Family members, including his mother and uncle, as well as some students, later disclosed that Abass had previously made comments about harming himself, remarks they had initially brushed aside as jokes.

His body has since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
