GTEC AND CHRIST THE TEACHER COLLEGE OF EDUCATION SIGN HISTORIC AGREEMENT
Accra, Ghana – A significant milestone was achieved in Ghana’s teacher education landscape on Friday, October 24, 2025, when the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and Christ the Teacher College of Education signed an agreement at the GTEC headquarters in Accra.
The agreement marks the transition of Christ the Teacher College of Education into a public institution.
Professor Ahmed Jinapor, Director-General of GTEC, and Rev. Msgr. Louis Kofi Tuffuor, Acting Principal of Christ the Teacher College of Education, signed the agreement in the presence of key stakeholders in Ghana’s tertiary education sector.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Jinapor commended the leadership of Christ the Teacher College of Education for their commitment to quality teacher training. He expressed GTEC’s readiness to support the college’s smooth transition into the public education framework.
“By this agreement, the College officially becomes a state-owned institution. This means it will now operate in accordance with government policies, receive state subventions, and adhere to all regulatory standards governing public colleges,” Prof. Jinapor stated.
Prof. Jinapor also highlighted that GTEC, in collaboration with the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), would organize orientation sessions and capacity-building programmes for the college’s management and staff. This is to ensure compliance with national policies and operational best practices.
Rev. Msgr. Louis Kofi Tuffuor, Acting Principal of Christ the Teacher College of Education, expressed gratitude to GTEC for facilitating the transition.
“We are deeply thankful to GTEC and the Government of Ghana for this milestone.
We pledge to cooperate fully with the Commission to ensure that the college operates in line with the government’s vision for teacher education,” Rev. Msgr. Tuffuor said.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by notable stakeholders including Prof. Samuel A. Atintono, President of PRINCOF, Dr. Samuel Addae-Boateng, PRINCOF General Secretary, Dr. Anthony Baabereyir, PRINCOF Zonal Chair, and Mr. Jerry Sarfo, Director of Corporate Affairs at GTEC.
