Ghana’s Parliament Passes Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill 2025
The Parliament of Ghana has passed the Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill 2025, marking a significant step towards sustainable management of the country’s marine and aquatic resources.
The Bill was passed after being taken through a certificate of urgency, underscoring the government’s commitment to harnessing the Blue Economy agenda.
The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, explained that the Bill aims to support economic growth, social inclusion, food security, and environmental protection through sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture resources.

The Chairman of the Committee that reviewed the Bill, Hon. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, highlighted the significant contributions of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors to national development.

– Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contribution
– Foreign exchange earnings
Hon. Jasaw emphasized the need for a robust legal framework to govern fishing activities, regulate resource extraction, and ensure compliance with international and national environmental standards.
