Ghana Police Service Cracks Down on Illegal Mining.

The Ghana Police Service has intensified its efforts to combat illegal mining activities across the country.

From March 2025 to date, the Police have conducted a series of anti-galamsey operations in various communities, resulting in significant arrests and retrievals.

– 208 suspects arrested Including Ghanaians and foreigners, for involvement in illegal mining activities.

Generators seized by Ghana Police Service- 99 excavators retrieved Along with 3 bulldozers, and other equipment used for illegal mining.Motorbikes seized by Ghana Police Service- Firearms seized Including 4 pump-action guns, 3 single-barrel guns, and 1 pistol.

Regional Operations
The Police have carried out operations in various regions, including:

– Western Region 58 suspects arrested, 85 excavators and 3 bulldozers retrieved.

– Western Central Region 85 suspects arrested, 11 excavators retrieved.

– Upper West Region 7 suspects arrested, 11 changfangs and 3 motorbikes retrieved.

– Eastern South Region 24 suspects arrested, 5 excavators and firearms retrieved.

– Eastern North Region 15 suspects arrested, excavator control boards, monitors, and a pistol retrieved.

The Ghana Police Service assures the public of its commitment to fighting illegal mining and preserving the country’s natural resources. All suspects are being processed through the law, and the Police will continue to work tirelessly to protect the environment and uphold the law.
