Ghana Eyes Serbia’s 100,000 Work Permit Initiative
Ghana has expressed interest in leveraging Serbia’s plan to grant 100,000 work permits to foreigners this year.
According to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the agreement between Ghana and Serbia could provide opportunities for Ghanaian workers to fill labor gaps in Serbia, whose aging population creates a need for foreign labor.
Ablakwa highlighted the potential benefits of a labor mobility agreement between the two countries, stating that Ghana’s young population, with a median age of 20, presents an opportunity for collaboration. This move could address Serbia’s labor shortages while providing opportunities for Ghanaian workers.
The agreement is part of efforts to deepen relations between Ghana and Serbia, building on their historical ties as founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement.
This development aligns with Ghana’s broader efforts to engage in international cooperation on labor mobility, similar to its dialogue with the European Union on structured labor migration.
By exploring opportunities in Serbia, Ghana aims to capitalize on its pool of skilled professionals to meet labor demands in countries facing shortages.
This initiative could potentially benefit both nations, fostering economic cooperation and development.
