Ga Traditional Council Cracks Down on Child Fishing to Prioritize Education
The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has announced plans to introduce a new by-law that will make it a crime for parents to let their kids ditch school for fishing.
Speaking at the 2026 Kinka Blonya celebration, he warned that parents who force their kids to fish instead of attending school will face arrest and prosecution .
This move is part of a bigger push by Ga traditional leaders to promote education and safeguard children’s futures.
Over 1,000 scholarships have been awarded to support vulnerable families and encourage school enrollment. “Education is non-negotiable in Ga State,” the king stressed.
The proposed measures include beach patrols, legal action against guardians, and scholarship checks to ensure kids stay in school.
The Ga Traditional Council is teaming up with the police and local authorities to enforce these rules.
