Fire Guts Ahodwo Slum in Kumasi, Leaves 400 Homeless
A devastating fire has swept through the Baba Ayoyo slum at Ahodwo in Kumasi, leaving over 400 residents homeless.
The fire, which occurred on the night of Wednesday, July 9, 2025, razed over 100 makeshift homes, leaving many without shelter or basic belongings.
According to reports, the fire was allegedly started by a 38-year-old man who was heartbroken after his lover ended their relationship.
The blaze broke out around 8:30 p.m., catching residents off guard and forcing many to flee for their lives.
The victims, mostly women and children, are now taking refuge in churches and the homes of sympathetic neighbors. Many are in dire need of food, clothes, and temporary shelter.
The victims are appealing to government agencies, charitable organizations, and individuals for urgent relief.
The Assembly Member for the Ridge Nhyiaeso electoral area, Abraham Boadi, has stated that NADMO and national security will assess the damage on Friday, July 11.
The victims have been asked to find temporary shelter with friends and relatives while waiting for assistance.
The incident has left many residents in a state of despair, with children unable to attend school due to the destruction of their uniforms and books.
The community is calling for urgent support to help them recover from this devastating incident.
