Fire Destroys Three Homes Near Cape Coast Station in Takoradi.

A fire incident which occurred around 9:00 am on August 16, has razed down three households around the Cape Coast station in Takoradi.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, yet the impact is dire. Properties worth hundreds of thousands of Ghana Cedis have been destroyed.

Despite the swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service, little could be salvaged. The firefighters managed to extinguish the fire with two fire tenders.

Ekow Ocran, a victim of the fire, says he has lost everything in his apartment to the fire. He is unsure of the cause of the fire, only indicating that the outbreak started in one wooden structure in the neighbourhood.

“I saw some kids running towards my end of the street. They told me fire has engulfed a wooden structure in the neighbourhood. We rushed to the scene and attempted to control the fire while others tried to reach the Fire Service.

“The fire on the wooden structure was running wild so there was little we could do. Fortunately, the fire service arrived,” he narrated.

Daniel Sackey Dadzie, another victim, has lost everything in his apartment to the fire.“My television, furniture, refrigerator, bed, microwave and other items have all been destroyed.”

In the case of Kwame Assiful, a handful of coins were salvaged. Bank notes and other plastic materials he had kept in a treasury box were all incinerated.

“I managed to salvage some belongings such as utensils, clothing and this money.

I cannot tell how much money I have lost to the fire.”
No official statement has been issued by the Ghana Fire Service about the cause of the fire accident.
Public Relations Officer of the Western Region office, DO3 Emmanuel Bonney, says his outfit is still investigating the cause.
