Drivers Association Suspends Planned Protest Over Pokuase-Nsawam Road After Govt Intervention

The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has suspended its planned protest over the deplorable state of the Pokuase-Nsawam road, following the government’s intervention.

The association met with the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, who assured them that the government would release GH¢4 billion by the end of July 2025 to settle part of the GH¢13 billion road sector debt.

The contractor, Maripoma Enterprise Limited, has commenced work on the 33.4km Ofankor-Nsawam road project, focusing on the most stressed areas, including Pobiman, Kuntunse, Samsam, and Atala.

Paa Willie, President of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, expressed relief that the contractor has started work on the road, fulfilling the minister’s promise.

While progress has been made, drivers are still suffering, and the association is urging the government to speed up the work. Mr. David Agboado, Public Relations Officer for the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, highlighted the broader issue of poor roads across the country, particularly on major routes that connect to neighboring countries.

“We are not just concerned about this road alone, but the state of roads in all 16 regions,” he said.

The association is calling on the government to prioritize road maintenance and repair to ease the suffering of drivers and commuters.

Kwesi Arhin, President of the Concerned Drivers Central Region, congratulated the Road Minister for fulfilling his promise but urged him to do more, particularly on the Kasoa-Cape Coast road.

The contractor is expected to complete the work within six weeks, and the association has warned that if this promise is not fulfilled, they will take further action.
