Devastating Bolt of Lightning Strikes Home, Leaves Family Stranded
A devastating lightning strike hit a house in the Oseikrom in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region last Saturday, leaving the family of Mr. and Mrs Ackom and their three children stranded.
The incident has left the family in a state of distress, with their home and all their belongings reduced to ashes.
Eyewitness, Mr. Patrick Ayensu who witnessed the incident, described the scene as “chaotic.”
“I heard the lightning strike, and it was like a bomb had exploded, after a minute I sensed something burning and because it was heavily raining I couldn’t come out” he said.
“The family was lucky that no one was at home at the moment.
I estimate that over GHC 45,000 was destroyed in the fire, GHC 7, 500 was also destroyed which it can’t be used in buying, the only money we got from the fire was GHC 600.
The couple, Mr. Kwabena Ackom and Mad. Adwoa Asantewaa who have three children, are pleading with the authorities to come to their aid.
“We’re begging for help,” Mr. Ackom said, “We lost everything in the fire. Our properties, money and personal belongings were all burnt to ashes. We don’t know how we’ll manage.”
The children, who are still traumatized by the incident, said they lost everything they had. “All our books, uniforms, and clothes were burnt,” We don’t have anything left.
So we are pleading with the government and the authorities to help us so we can go to school and become a better person in the future.
