Court Grants Bail to Ajumako Baby Thief Suspect.
The Mankessim Circuit Court has granted bail to Rebecca Ofori, a 40-year-old woman accused of stealing an 11-month-old baby at the Ajumako Market Centre.
The bail was set at 50,000 Ghanaian cedis with two sureties.Rebecca Ofori was captured on CCTV stealing the baby and secretly sending the child to Tarkwa Benso in the Western Region, claiming she had adopted her from the mother.
However, her account turned out to be false when the CCTV footage went viral, prompting suspicions from people in her neighborhood.
The court, presided over by Justice Gloria Naa Bortoh Laryea, has adjourned the case to August 24, 2025, pending the outcome of a mental examination at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital. Concerns were raised about Ofori’s mental stability after family members alleged she had previously exhibited erratic behavior, including threatening her 70-year-old mother with a machete.
The decision to send Rebecca Ofori for mental evaluation comes after concerns about her mental health were raised. She will undergo treatment and evaluation at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital until the medical report is ready.
