COCOBOD Scandal Rocks Parliament: Minority Demands Investigation into Ato Boateng’s Ties
The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, the Hon. Vincent Ekow Assafuah has strongly urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to delve deeply into a potential conflict of interest involving Mr. Ato Boateng, who is the Acting Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance and Administration.
This call for investigation stems from troubling concerns regarding Mr. Boateng’s affiliations and their implications on governance within the sector.
In his remarks, Hon. Assafuah highlighted the existence of a specific company named ATLAS Commodities, which has reportedly been utilizing the services of PBC Company as their designated warehouse for storing cocoa, raising important questions about transparency and ethical practices in the industry.
In a press conference held at Parliament, the Hon Member rises the critical role that the cocoa industry plays in Ghana’s economy, emphasizing that it serves as one of the country’s most vital economic pillars.
He underscored that the integrity and impartiality of the governance structures of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) are of utmost significance and priority for national interests, pointing out that any perceived lapses in governance could have far-reaching consequences for the sector and for the prosperity of the nation as a whole.
He therefore called upon the Office of Special Prosecutors (OSP) and various other investigative bodies to thoroughly delve into this pressing matter, as he lamented the seriousness of the situation and expressed his deep concern that a comprehensive investigation was essential to uncover the full truth behind the circumstances at hand.
