Christian Leaders Issue Communiqué on National Issues

The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) have issued a joint communiqué on various national issues, following their annual joint meeting on May 22, 2025.

The leaders discussed matters of church and national interest, highlighting several concerns.

The CCG and GCBC propose that the annual National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, slated for July 1, be led by religious bodies with the Church playing a central role.

The leaders call on the Minister of Education to reinstate religious body representation on the Ghana Education Service Council, recognizing the historical and moral contributions for faith-based institutions.

They also urge the government to sign the education partnership agreement with Christian churches to promote moral values and address corruption.

The CCG and GCBC propose revisiting discussions on the election of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives to enhance local governance, emphasizing the importance of local participation and support.

The leaders reaffirm their support for the bill, which has been resubmitted to Parliament, and request that it be government-sponsored to avoid legal challenges.

The Christian leaders assure Ghanaians of their continued commitment to public education, Christian advocacy, and prayers for peace, harmony, and justice, guided by biblical principles
