Chiefs and Elders of Akumadan Express Disappointment Over DCE’s 24-Hour Economy Market Decision

The chiefs and elders of Akumadan in the Offinso North District have expressed bitter disappointment and frustration over the District Chief Executive’s (DCE) decision to construct a 24-hour economy market in Nkenkansu instead of Akumadan-Afrancho.

Despite the chiefs offering 40 acres of land for the project, the DCE, Caeser Ofosu Acheampong, has reneged on his promise and signed the construction contract for Nkenkansu.

The Gyasehene of Akumadan, Nana Kweku Boateng, expressed disappointment, stating that the 24-hour market should be built in Akumadan-Afrancho, the district capital.

He called on the government to intervene in the matter, emphasizing that the community’s opposition is driven by a desire for development, not politics.

The community is urging the DCE to reconsider his decision and prioritize the development of Akumadan-Afrancho.

They have also appealed to the Speaker of Parliament, the Minority Minister, and all stakeholders to take immediate action to address the situation.

“We sat with the DCE and released over 40 acres of land for the construction of the 24-hour economy market, but he has turned us down,” the chiefs lamented.

“We urge the government to intervene and ensure that the project is located in Akumadan-Afrancho, where it rightfully belongs.”
