A tragic incident occurred at Mankessim market in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, where a 50-year-old truck pusher, identified as Mr. Ofori, was found dead inside an uncompleted market store building.
In an interview with the Media, some market women who had
known Mr. Ofori for over 15 years expressed their sadness.
According to them, Mr. Ofori relocated from Obuasi to Mankessim due to financial hardships and worked as a truck pusher to earn his daily bread. However, in recent months, he fell ill and could no longer work, leading him to rely on food and support from traders at the market.
On this fateful day, 1st September 2025 around 3:00 PM, he was seen battling for his life in the uncompleted building but, unfortunately, could not survive. He passed away, leaving the community in shock and sorrow.
Reports suggest that Mr. Ofori suffered from a medical condition known as a hernia, which likely contributed to his death.
Additionally, it was revealed that he had a history of substance use, including cigarettes and marijuana, which may have exacerbated his health issues.
The Assembly Member of mankessim Old Nkusukum, Hon. Emmanuel K. Baiden, who has known Mr. Ofori for about 35 years, shared his grief over the loss.
He appealed to individuals, especially those from other towns working in Mankessim, to ensure their families and friends know their whereabouts and hometowns. He emphasized that this would allow loved ones to be contacted in emergencies or unfortunate situations like this.
Hon. Baiden also urged anyone who might know Mr. Ofori’s relatives to inform them of his passing so that they can claim his body and provide him with a proper burial.
The incident was reported to the police, who arrived at the scene and transported the body to the mortuary. Investigations are ongoing to determine any further details regarding his death and to locate his family.
This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and the need for accessible healthcare for vulnerable individuals. May Mr. Ofori rest in peace.
