Ankobeahene Urges Government to Establish Islamic SHS in New Dormaa

The Ankobeahene of New Dormaa in Sunyani East, Nana Oppong Kyekyeku, has called on the government to establish an Islamic Senior High School (SHS) in the community.

He made the appeal during a graduation ceremony of the New Dormaa Islamic Basic School, emphasizing that the school would cater to the growing demand for specialized education among Muslim youth.

Nana Oppong Kyekyeku noted that the establishment of an Islamic SHS would provide opportunities for Muslim students to pursue Islamic education and promote diverse cultural practices.

He revealed that land has already been secured for the project and stressed the importance of accessible educational infrastructure in promoting school attendance and economic development.

The Assembly Member for New Dormaa, Iddrisu Abdula Karim, and the Wangara Imam for Sunyani and Bono Region, Alhaji Hamza Omar, have backed the Ankobeahene’s call.

They commended the chiefs for their commitment to releasing land for the project and praised the government’s Free Education Policy for enabling many youth to access second-cycle education.

The establishment of an Islamic SHS in New Dormaa is expected to boost economic activities and promote educational development in the community.

The Muslim community has expressed its commitment to supporting the school if established, highlighting the potential benefits for Muslim students who face challenges in accessing Arabic and Islamic studies due to limited school infrastructure.
