Ankanfo Community Cries Out for Public Toilet Facilities
Residents of Ankanful in Saltpond, within the Mfantseman municipality of Ghana’s Central Region, are calling on the government to provide more public toilet facilities.
The community currently shares only one public toilet, leading to widespread defecation on the beaches.

Hon. Kwesi Arhin, the Akanfo Assembly Member, expressed frustration over the issue, having repeatedly warned residents against using the beaches as toilets.
The lack of sufficient public toilets has made it challenging for residents, particularly fishmongers, to maintain proper hygiene practices.
Despite efforts to create a volunteer group to supervise and address perpetrators, the initiative stalled due to funding constraints.
Citizens are now pleading with the government to intervene and provide additional public toilet facilities to alleviate the situation.
This issue highlights a broader national concern about access to sanitation facilities in Ghana. Many communities face similar challenges, with inadequate public toilets contributing to environmental and health problems.
Ghanaian government has been urged to prioritize sanitation infrastructure development to address these issues.
