Ablekuma North Rerun: Police Officer Faces Criminal Charges for Assaulting Journalist.

The Accra Regional Police Command has launched a thorough investigation into the violent incidents that marred the parliamentary re-run election in Ablekuma North, Accra, on July 11.

The police have confirmed that they are reviewing multiple videos capturing assaults and disturbances at various polling stations.

According to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the police have gathered vital leads and are expected to make arrests soon.

Victims involved in the reported assaults have been issued Police Medical Report Forms to support their medical needs and facilitate further inquiry.

A police officer, who has since been interdicted, is now facing criminal charges for assaulting a journalist.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to holding accountable anyone found culpable of violence, intimidation, or electoral misconduct.

The Ablekuma North re-run was ordered after the initial parliamentary election results were annulled over procedural irregularities.

Despite efforts to restore confidence in the electoral process, the poll was disrupted by pockets of violence and allegations of police brutality.

The Accra Regional Police Command has assured residents that justice will be pursued without fear or favour.
