Afrancho Residents Protest 24-Hour Market Location Decision
We the concerned citizens of Afrancho in Offinso North District of Ashanti region are up in arms over the decision to build an ultra-modern 24-hour market at Nkaankasu instead of Afrancho. They’ve expressed their disappointment and are calling on the District Chief Executive, Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, to reconsider this decision.
According to the market traders, The market has a lot of land for the proposed market structures , the market serves twenty one (21) communities than any other towns in the district.
Some of them include Mankramso, Tanokaem, Mpaepaem, Tawiakrom and many more.
Afrancho and new Techiman have emerged as one town.
Most of the people from Tonoso, Akomadan, Nkankaasu and many surrounding towns and villages come to Afrancho to sell their goods in the Friday market.
The people of Afrancho and its environs produce food like Cassava, Plantain, Groundnuts, Yam in large quantities to feed the good people of Ghana.
At least about four (4) vehicles loaded cassava to Kumasi each and every day.
Concern citizens and traders in the market are calling for renovations to improve their trading conditions.
Some of them said, Afrancho market need to improved Sanitation, Clean and well-maintained facilities, better storage, secure storage spaces for their goods.
Upgraded stalls, drainage system and lighting to enabling them to operate efficiently and effectively.
There are no proper facilities at Afrancho market which was recently commissioned by the district chief executive hon Caesar Acheampong, all the roofing has been ripped off, there is no electricity.
