2025 BECE: Over 600,000 Candidates Ready to Take the Stage

 

The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is set to kick off on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, with a total of 603,328 candidates across the country ready to take the test.

The examination, which will run until Wednesday, June 18, 2025, is a crucial milestone for students seeking to benefit from the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Policy.

This year’s BECE has seen a significant increase in the number of candidates, with a 5.99% rise in school candidates and a 19.49% increase in private candidates compared to the 2024 figures.

The examination will be conducted at 2,237 centers across the country, with school candidates writing two papers daily at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

The BECE comprises 11 subjects, including seven common core courses, and candidates will be writing an average of nine subjects.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that all examination materials have been dispatched to the various metropolitan and district education offices nationwide, and timetables have been distributed to schools.

To ensure the integrity of the examination, the GES and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will jointly conduct supervision, with support from law enforcement agencies.

The Director-General of the GES, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has warned against examination malpractice, stating that anyone caught will face severe punishment.

WAEC has also announced that some private candidates will be examined on the old syllabus, while others will be examined on the core curriculum.

The council has made adjustments to make its examinations accessible to candidates with special educational needs and has reminded stakeholders of the revised Rules and Regulations for dealing with cases of irregularity in its examinations.

As the examination approaches, stakeholders are urged to ensure that candidates are well-prepared and that the examination is conducted fairly and transparently.

The GES and WAEC are working together to ensure that the 2025 BECE is a success, and candidates are wishing all the best as they embark on this critical assessment.
